Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) is looking for an intern to help with the organisation of a major conference in May 2012 in celebration of our 15th anniversary.
The two-day conference has a provisional working title of: Crisis and Power: analysis, resistance, alternatives - rolling back EU corporate power. During the event, we will look at the causes of the current economic crisis, including the role played by corporate lobbying and the corporate capture of public policy-making processes in Brussels, Washington and elsewhere. With this event we want to contribute to the development of progressive thinking on EU issues and we are hoping for an audience of at least 200 persons, which would make it bigger than most other CEO events.
The tasks of this intern role (full time) are likely to include:
- Providing support on organising conference logistics (booking accommodation and travel for speakers...)
- Providing support on public outreach and disseminating publicity for the conference
- Providing support on the development of communication and conference materials
- Managing delegate registrations and liaison with participants
You will be working as part of a team to organise the conference, and the above list of tasks will be subject to change as the preparations for the conference develop.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Interested in the topic of the conference
- Experienced in organising other events
- Highly organised with good attention to detail
- A good communicator
- Very good written/ spoken English; other European languages very helpful
- A self-starter who is able to work without close supervision
- A team player
Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) is a research and campaign group working to expose and challenge the privileged access and influence enjoyed by corporations and their lobby groups in EU policy making. We are a small team based in Brussels with several of our staff members working remotely from other EU countries.
For interns, CEO offers an intern fee of 1,000 euro per month plus travel costs.
Ideally, this intern position would start in February-March 2012. The conference is planned for 12-13 May 2012 at a central Brussels venue, and we would be looking for an intern to work with us for 3-4 months, depending on availability.
