People across Europe come together to reject EU austerity policies in Brussels and other European capitals next week

When the EU Summit takes place in Brussels on the 14th of March it will be in the midst of protests all over Europe and in the Belgian capital itself. “For a European Spring” – a coalition of movements from 13 countries – is calling for actions to denounce the EU approach to the eurocrisis.

A growing group of civil society organisations is calling on the EU to abolish its Emission Trading System (ETS) to open space for truly effective climate policies. Today they release a joint declaration that highlights the many structural loopholes the ETS is facing, that the proposed reform proposals put forward by EU policy makers will not be able to fix.
The European Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the European Commission's alleged failure to prevent conflicts of interest among staff as a result of the revolving door - where EU staff take up jobs with lobby firms and vice versa.
In a decision published today, following a complaint filed by Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO), the EU Ombudsman concludes that the European Central Bank's (ECB) President Mario Draghi's membership of the lobby Group of Thirty does not violate the ethics rules of the ECB. Brussels/ Amsterdam – A small club of international law firms, arbitrators and financial speculators are fuelling an investment arbitration boom that is costing taxpayers billions of dollars and preventing legislation in the public interest, according to a new report from the Transnational Institute and Corporate Europe Observatory published today.

The Commission's proposed reforms of the EU Emissions Trading System fail to address its obvious flaw - the ETS is not fit for purpose and should be dropped, according to a coalition of environmental NGOs, including Corporate Europe Observatory, Cuonter Balance and FERN. They argue that the ETS has failed to achieve its own objectives, has generated windfall profits for polluting corporations, and postponed the needed transition from fossil fuels, locking the EU into a carbon-intensive future.
Parma, 13 November – Campaigners today demonstrated outside a conference to mark the 10th anniversary of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), held at its headquarters in Parma, Italy. Farmers, NGOs, students and local activists gathered to denounce the industry-capture of our food safety system that EFSA plays a key role in.
