Confidential: Law Firm Lobbyists at Work

As law firms continue to evade transparency on their lobbying activities by boycotting the European Commission’s register of interest representatives, Corporate Europe Observatory decided to shed some light on the extent of law firm lobbying in Brussels.

Law firms are not required to register their activities – the Commission’s register remains voluntary for all interest representatives – and in July, just four law firms had registered.

Europe's resource grab – Vested interests at work in the European Parliament

On 30 June, the European Parliament’s industry, energy and research committee (ITRE) is due to vote on the EU’s Raw Materials Initiative, establishing guidelines for Europe's future policy on natural resource use. The Parliament’s report could effectively give the green light to mining in protected European nature reserves as well as a resource grab in Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Arctic.

Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) is a research and campaign group working to expose and challenge the privileged access and influence enjoyed by corporations and their lobby groups in EU policy making.

Key areas of work

* campaigning against industry capture of EU advisory groups, for ending the secrecy around corporate lobbying, as well as on other priority issues (together with other groups in the ALTER-EU coalition);

New position opening: Lobbycracy campaigner with Corporate Europe Observatory (maternity leave position)

The position is based in Brussels, in our office in the Mundo-B building near the Porte de Namur in Brussels. Starting date August 15 2012 (a later start date can be discussed)
