Next week, Corporate Europe Observatory will organise three guided lobby tours of the Brussels EU quarter. The first one, on Monday 24 at 10:00, is co-organised with LobbyControl and will focus on exposing the corporate lobby behind the EU-US trade talks (TTIP). The second one, on Wednesday 25 at 13:00, will cover the role of lobbying in EU policy-making. And the third one will focus on the agri-business lobby and instead of a walking tour, like the other two, this will be by bus.
A lobby tour on the EU-US trade talks – Monday 24 at 10:00 am
Lobby-watchdogs LobbyControl (Germany) and Corporate Europe Observatory (Brussels) will team up for a joint guided ‘lobby tour’ of the Brussels EU quarter with a focus on the ongoing EU-US trade negotiations. During the tour, we will give concrete examples of how corporate lobbyists are influencing these talks and how the European Commission is giving them privileged access to do so.
The tour will provide participants with evidence of how corporate lobbies are setting the agenda for these negotiations, demanding the lowering of food safety standards and the rights of business to co-write legislation in the future.
A lobby tour on EU policy-making – Tuesday 25 at 1:00 pm
This guided tour will provide a crash-course on the power politics at play in the Brussels EU quarter, by highlighting the key players, the locations and the tactics used by big business to influence EU decision-making.
The lack of transparency, the privileged access granted to big business, the revolving door and other problems will be highlighted through concrete examples of the industry footprints on laws and decisions and how this affects citizens and democracy.
