Former employer: DG External Relations (now European External Action Service), Head of Eastern Partnership Taskforce
Date: March, 2011
New employer: G+ Europe (lobby consultancy), Independent associate
"I have the pleasure to inform you that there exists no incompatibility between the prescribed regulations and these activities which you have described in your application of 15 March 2011 and they can be authorised".
Comment from CEO:
"Mr Dethomas was in a very senior role, leading the EU's relationship with countries such as Russia and Georgia. It is no surprise that he was then snapped up by G+ with its clients in that part of the world. It is highly disappointing that the Commission did not put a two year cooling off period, or ban, on the acceptance of this role".
Mr Dethomas worked for the Commission for over 22 years from 1988.
G+ works alongside several other agencies to provide advice to clients Gazprom Export and the Russian Federation, both of which are likely to be very interested in the insights of a former Head of the Commission’s Eastern Partnership Taskforce. (Source: EU Transparency Register)
At the time of the appointment, Peter Guilford, the executive chairman of G+ said “His experience as EU Ambassador in Eastern Europe ... will help us deepen our footprint in these growth regions". (Source: G+ website)
