New position opening: researcher and campaigner with Corporate Europe Observatory
Corporate Europe Observatory is looking for an experienced campaigner to join our team and strengthen our work on rolling back excessive corporate influence in EU policy-making. This full time (36 hours per week) is based in Brussels, in our office in the Mundo-B building near the Porte de Namur. Starting date: December 15 2012 (a later start date can be discussed).
Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) is a research and campaign group working to expose and challenge the privileged access and influence enjoyed by corporations and their lobby groups in EU policy making.
Key areas of work
* campaigning against industry capture of EU advisory groups, for ending the secrecy around corporate lobbying, as well as on other priority issues (together with other groups in the ALTER-EU coalition);
* research and writing of articles, blog posts and reports on specific issues around the influence of corporate lobbying on EU policy-making processes;
* help strengthen the visibility and impact of CEO's campaigning against excessive corporate influence in EU policy-making.
Specific tasks
* help translate our analysis and demands on complex EU-level issues into simple concepts and messages that can generate wide public support;
* develop imaginative campaign activities and work to attract media coverage;
* co-organise conferences, events and stunts;
* contribute to research and analysis;
* write campaign materials, as well as articles for newspapers, magazines and websites;
* speak at public meetings & build relations with parliamentarians and other decision-makers.
Essential requirements
* two or more years of successful experience in (EU-level) campaigning;
* commitment to the values, vision and mission of Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO);
* substantial knowledge about the role of transnational corporations in the global economy;
* broad knowledge about European unification and key EU policy issues;
* good understanding of EU decision-making processes;
* ability to think analytically and plan strategically;
* ability to work closely with others in a team, in an often high-pressured environment;
* ability to manage own workload without close supervision;
* experience with coalition-building and coordination of international civil society / activist networks;
* experience with event organizing and media outreach;
* excellent writing and communication skills;
* experience with investigative journalism or other relevant research is very welcome;
* fluent English (other languages an advantage).
We offer
36 hours per week, for a one-year period (to be prolonged pending fund-raising). The gross salary is between 2100 and 2600 euro per month (depending on experience).
