#scienceVlobbying - public conference
Policy-makers want their decisions to be based on the best available evidence; controlling this evidence is therefore a key component of the strategy of the lobbyists who can afford it. Among the tactics used: funding self-serving research to use for their lobbying, discrediting critical science, scientists or scientific institutions, artificially prolonging scientific debate to preserve commercial positions, capturing public research policy to limit funding for independent scrutiny...
What can citizens, public authorities in general and the EU in particular do against such tactics? How to make the existing EU scientific evidence appraisal system evolve towards better serving the public interest and provide public representatives and officials with reliable answers to their questions? How to organise the production of knowledge in society in a way that is relevant to our collective needs?
Analysing evidence politics, discussing evidence policies: this will be our program for these two days. You are warmly invited to join us.
