CEO is among the winners of the World Citizen Prize for fighting against water privatisation
The Kant Foundation has decided to grant its Weltbürger Prize 2014 (Citizen of the world prize) to the film-makers of the documentary “Water Makes Money”, Leslie Franke and Herdolor Lorenz, as well as to two protagonists featuring in the documentary, Jean-luc Touly (a French trade unionist) and CEO's Martin Pigeon. The foundation, based in Freiburg, Germany, gave the award to Franke, Lorenz, Touly and Pigeon for their contribution to the documentary and to the struggle against water privatisation.1
“Water Makes Money” is an uncompromising description of the social and environmental consequences of water management privatisation as well as of the manoeuvres of private water companies to expand their business. The film was an eye-opener to many in Europe about the dangers and shortcomings of commercial water management. CEO is proud to have contributed to making the film possible and is honoured by this award.
The award will also be given to the Turkish progressive lawyers association Çağdaş Hukukçular Derneği (CHD) for their work in defending the rule of law in Turkey and against the repression targeting protesters in this country (including CHD's president, Selçuk Kozagaçli).
