EU economic governance

During the cost-of-living crisis the employers’ organisation BusinessEurope has turned a blind eye to the link between industry's super profits and inflation. Their refrain is that wage moderation is the key to fight inflation. Their message: wage earners should pay for the crisis, not corporate profiteers.

From hospitals to care homes, the evidence is mounting that outsourcing and private provision of healthcare has significantly degraded EU member states’ capacity to deal effectively with COVID-19. The EU must reject the private sector lobbyists now whispering in its ear, and put public provision at the centre of its strategy.

The current struggle in France over labour law reforms is not just between the Government and trade unions – a European battle is waged. The attacks on social rights stem in no small part from the web of EU-rules dubbed 'economic governance', invented to impose austerity policies on member states.
