The Big 5 oil and gas majors have brought more than 400 lobbyists to the UN climate talks since the Paris Agreement was signed at COP21.

An unprecedentedly large coalition of politicians from the US Congress and the EU Parliament call for an end to fossil fuel industry influence at the UN climate talks weeks before crucial negotiations.

COP27 was dubbed the ‘gas COP’, with record-breaking numbers of fossil fuel lobbyists in attendance. However, much less attention was paid to how this could also have been called ‘hydrogen COP’, with a myriad of events and deals sealed by companies and governments, many with a focus on extracting resources from Africa.

18 out of 20 COP27 sponsors directly support or partner with the fossil fuel industry, helping it to advance its climate-wrecking agenda.

New research from CEO, Corporate Accountability and Global Witness shows there are more fossil fuel lobbyists than representatives of the ten nations most impacted by the climate crisis registered to attend COP27.

The very financial sector that funds pollution through massive investments has been allowed to take care of the problem themselves. It is deeply worrying that groups like the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) have captured the agenda of climate finance at the COP; and urgent to remove them from this privileged role.

Rejected by the climate justice movement, the final COP26 text mirrors the agenda of rich developed countries and their oil and gas industries.
